The Submerged Arc Welding Process (SAW)
Submerged arc welding involves of melting the metal parts by heating them by means of an arc buried between a bare electrode and the workpiece to be welded. The arc and molten metal are “submerged” in a layer of granulated flux. The method uses a solid, consumable and continuous wire electrode that the flux isolates. The flux stabilizes the arc during welding, isolating the melt from the atmosphere. In addition, the flux covers and protects the metal as it cools down, from all that can affect its composition and characteristics.
